Pamplemousses Botanical Garden

Spread over an area of 37 hectares, the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden was constructed in 1170 by Pierre Poivre. The garden is popular for its large water lilies, sugar canes, ebonies and more than eighty varieties of palms from Asia, Africa and islands around the Indian Ocean. Most of the trees in the garden have been planted by world leaders such as Indira Gandhi, Princess Margaret and Robert Mugabe among others.
