The big adventure
If you plan to discover Western Australia, Perth is its capital and stretches along the Swan River. At the heart of the city, trees line up along the Mall, opening its pedestrian area between Hay and Murray streets and offering famous designer brands, superb restaurants and souvenir shops. Further along, the Western Australian Museum displays contemporary art while celebrating the history of the country and its Aboriginal traditions. Nightlife is at its best in the popular Northbridge area with its many thriving restaurants, nightclubs and jazz bars. Try a cruise along the Swan Valley. It starts in historic Guildford before going on to the vineyards and the best wines in the region. On the return journey, the ferry sails through calm waters where pelicans glide along the green river banks. Cruisers get off at Barracks Jetty, a busy meeting point for ferries. On the bar terraces, the city people watch the seagulls while enjoying a sundowner. Nature lovers should be sure to visit Caversham Wildlife Park, home to 200 species including koalas, wombats and wallabies, while Pinnacles Desert offers fantastic sand dunes scenery.
