Heritage and people
Mauritius island history has been influenced at various times by the Dutch, the French and the British, and yet it is populated by a harmonious, smiling and courteous mix of Indian, Creole, Chinese and Franco Mauritian nationals. Mauritius is a journey of many sensations, both cultural and culinary, in the heart of the Indian Ocean. The island enjoys different customs and traditions, where India meets Europe and Africa meets China.
Today, this independent island country celebrates many religious festivals. Knowing that the peace and harmony of a country depend on how the country guards and protects the various cultures and traditions of its citizens, governments and political leaders have made these celebrations priorities. There is a common holiday for each community on this island so that everyone can celebrate their ancestral traditions.
